Irish wheelchair racer Shauna Bocquet delivered an impressive performance to finish third in the women’s wheelchair race at the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in New York, crossing the line in 1:02:59.
Competing against some of the biggest names in international wheelchair racing, Bocquet secured a podium place in one of the most competitive road races on the global calendar.
The race was won by Great Britain’s Eden Rainbow-Cooper, who took victory in 54:27, while American Paralympic legend Tatyana McFadden, a 22-time Paralympic medallist, finished second in 1:00:21.
Organised by New York Road Runners, the 13.1-mile race is one of the largest half marathons in the United States and attracts elite athletes from around the world. The course takes competitors on a spectacular route through New York City, beginning in Prospect Park in Brooklyn before crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, passing Times Square, and finishing in Central Park.
Bocquet lined up in a high-quality women’s wheelchair field that also included international competitors such as Hoda Elshorbagy, Linden Williamson, Michelle Wheeler, and Hannah Dederick, underlining the depth of competition in the race.
Her third-place finish marks another strong international result for the Galway athlete, who continues to compete regularly on the international wheelchair racing circuit and represent Ireland at major road racing events.
The United Airlines NYC Half once again attracted a world-class professional field across all divisions, including Olympians, Paralympians, national record holders and global medallists, making Bocquet’s podium finish a particularly notable result on the international stage.
