Sarah Healy (U.C.D. A.C.) has broken the Irish Senior Indoor 1500M record tonight.
Competing at the World Indoor Tour Gold meet in Lievin, France, Healy clocked an impressive time of 4.03.83 to finish fifth.
The time takes over two seconds off the previous record held by Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn A.C.) since January 2020.
The race was won by Freweyni Hailu of Ethiopia in 3.57.24.
Healy’s latest record comes just one week since she broke Mary Cullen’s national senior indoor record over 3000m clocking 8.36.06 in Metz.
Just three days prior to her 23rd birthday, Healy who is now based in Wigan and being coached by Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows, will look to continue her strong form in the next few weeks as she looks forward to a massive 2024.
Sarah Lavin (Emerald A.C.) and Nick Griggs (Candour Track Club) were also in action at the meet.
Lavin finished third in the Women’s 60m Hurdles clocking a time of 7.98. It is the Limerick native’s seventh sub-eight second performance of 2024.
Griggs also performed admirably in the French city, crossing the line in fourth in the Men’s 2000m. The Tyrone teenager ran a blisteringly fast time of 5.01.98.
