Ireland have confirmed their team selections for the finals of the World Athletics Relays that take place at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, the Bahamas in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Monday 6th May).
The Mixed and Women’s 4x400m relay teams will be back in action following heroic performances yesterday where both won their heats in national records, securing spots at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the process.
First to take to the track will be the mixed team which is unchanged from last night. The quartet of Cillin Greene (Galway City Harriers), Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC), Thomas Barr (Ferrybank AC) and Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC) return to the track having clocked a seriously impressive time of 3:12.50 last night, the third fastest time of all those who competed in the heat. Their final gets underway at 2:40am Irish Time.
Due to the fact that only one change could be made on the mixed relay team and the tight turnaround of thirty minutes between finals, the women’s team sees two changes being made, allowing for Irish team management to utilise their strong squad.
Roisin Harrison (Emerald AC) who has been an integral part of the women’s relay in recent years comes into the team, along with Lauren Cadden (Sligo AC) who has been in excellent early season form running a personal best of 53.38 last month.
Phil Healy (Bandon AC) will run on the first leg for Ireland, with Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock AC) set to anchor the team home. The Women’s 4x400m final is scheduled for 3:10am.
