Fastnet Triathlon Race Report

ByEmma Porter |

Schull Triathlon Club celebrated the 20th anniversary of Fastnet Triathlon, hosting its first Youth Series Aquathlon alongside the Sprint National Series, Try-a-Tri & Team Relay race.

The event took place on Saturday, 15th of June in the small coastline town of Schull in West Cork. The misty weather did not dampen the spirits of the athletes gathering at the start line, with a few sunny spells uplifting the supporters throughout the race.

The race kicked off in the sheltered harbour with the Youth Series race, as the athletes took to the water followed by a run along the picturesque harbour & coast.

Try-a-Tri participants followed shortly after, entering the water to tackle the 250 metre swim, followed by the 6 kilometre cycle and finishing up with the 3 kilometre run.

Over 300 athletes gathered in the harbour to race the Sprint National Series race, with Conor Mullany from Belpark Tri Club claiming first place as he crossed the finish line in a time of 01:07:33.

The 20th anniversary of the Fastnet Triathlon was a great success, marked by high spirits, impressive performances, and a strong sense of community.
