Hell of the West Race Report

The Hell of the West triathlon hosted by Limerick Triathlon Club took place on Saturday 29th of June as part of the Triathlon National Series. The race takes place along the scenic west coast in Kilkee, County Clare.

The race kicked off on the beach & the athletes tackled the incoming tide with confidence as they completed the 1.5km single lap swim route. Ryan Ates from South Coast Tri Club led the pack, emerging from the water first with a time of 00:21:27. Overall winner Donncha Kiely finished the 46km bike course in a time of 01:11:46 alongside Martin Divilly from Galway Tri Club. Donal Mongey completed the fastest run, which was a scenic 10km route overlooking the cliffs & the Atlantic ocean.

In the female race, Limerick Triathlon Club dominated the podium with Kathryn Fahy crossing the finish line first, in a time of 02:31:41, followed by fellow club member Roisin Kelleher who held the fastest run (00:43:26). Cork Tri Club’s Maura Barry rounded out the podium, claiming 3rd place. Piranha’s Claire Diffley was the first female out of the water with a time of 00:22:42. Kathryn Fahy completed the fastest cycle which secured her 1st place on the podium (01:22:18).
