The Irish Men’s 4x400m Relay team finished seventh in their final as the World Athletics U20 Championships concluded in Lima, Peru.
The quartet of Conor Kelly (Derry Track Club), David Davitt (Clonliffe Harriers AC), Sean Doggett (Athenry AC) and Stephen Mannion (South Galway AC) combined to clock a time of 3:09.73, less than one second down on the national U20 record they had set yesterday to advance to the final.
In what was a scrappy race which saw the Irish athletes having to navigate plenty of traffic throughout, they gave another excellent account of themselves and can be proud of what they’ve achieved and take plenty of confidence as they build to the future.
The Irish team will depart Peru tomorrow and arrive back to Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport on Monday at 6:25pm (Flight number IB3790). Oisin Joyce (Lake District AC) who won bronze in the Men’s Javelin Throw will be amongst those returning along with his silverware.
