Erin McConnell and Emma O’Brien were in action this weekend at the 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta, Spain.
McConnell exited the water in 2nd place behind USA’s Caroline Theil, almost 20 seconds of the next athlete. McConnell ended up with a solo stint out on the bike course for 2.5 laps before being joined by several chasers. She finished her race with a strong 17:28 5km run for 4th place overall, just 15 seconds from the podium. The result marks her best European Cup performance to date, with McConnell stating that she was “delighted with the result” and that it’s now “back to work, excited for the last few races of the season.”
Wicklow’s Emma O’Brien was also in attendance to make her international debut at the European Cup in Ceuta, finishing in 41st position.
McConnell will now switch her focus to the 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Alanya, Turkey, where she will be joined by Jonathan Oakey and Luke McCarron.
In the meantime, Ireland will be represented by several athletes at the 2024 World Triathlon and World Para-Triathlon Championship Finals in Torremolinos-Andalucia, Spain, next weekend.
