After a thrilling Galway Classic, which saw blistering rides from Philip O’Connor (C1), Pete Fuller (C2), and Darragh Byrne (C3), attention now turns to one of the most iconic events on the Irish cycling calendar, the Des Hanlon Memorial, taking place Sunday, March 30th. Hosted by Carlow RCC, this year marks the 44th edition of what many regard as a true Irish Spring Classic.
The Des Hanlon Memorial is steeped in tradition, but 2025 brings new energy to the event. As part of the newly established National Grade race series, this year’s edition promises a proper test of form and grit. With changes to the route, a fresh new finish and that classic Carlow terrain, riders can expect a spectacular battle across the roads of Laois, Kilkenny and Carlow.
Notably, a decisive stage of The Rás made use of parts of the year’s course, a sign of the challenge that lies ahead. If you’re chasing early season points, this is the race to bring your climbing legs and make a mark.
