Podium for O’Brien in France

ByEmma Porter |

Five riders represented Ireland over the weekend at the class 2 Festival International Piste Toulon Provence Méditerranée in Hyeres, France. Aoife O’Brien, Emma Jeffers, Esther Wong and Lucy Benezet Minns are all U23 riders who have been regulars in the Irish jersey on the track in recent events and were joined by Caoimhe O’Brien who made her first return to the track team since the U23 European Championships in 2023. A strong international field contested scratch, elimination, madison and omnium events over two days. The race was an important opportunity to practise bunch racing skills as the national team continue to target increased strength in depth of the women’s track endurance group.

Aoife O’Brien demonstrated her continued progress on the track and the confidence from her recent 8th place in the elimination at the Konya Nations Cup carried into this event. 5th place in the scratch, 3rd place in the elimination race and a standout 2nd in the omnium were highlights from the weekend.

Other top 10 finishes were as follows:

Scratch – Aoife (5th), Emma (7th), Caoimhe (10th)

Elimination – Aoife (3rd), Emma (9th), Lucy (10th)

Madison – Caoimhe/Emma (5th), Aoife/Esther (7th)

Omnium – Emma (8th)
