Skerries Triathlon Race Report 2025

ByEmma Porter |

Skerries celebrated triathlon for the 42nd year on Sunday. The Fingal Triathlon Club event is one of Ireland’s iconic triathlons, with 400 participants in the sold-out Triathlon National Series sprint race, and 200 young triathletes taking part in the Youth Series, supported by AIG Insurance.

The morning began with a touching tribute and minute’s silence for former Fingal Triathlon Club member Garda Kevin Flatley, who passed away last month. Club members, alongside Garda Flatley’s colleagues, also held a cycling procession with his bikes ahead of the first cyclist on course.

O’Brien & Kyne On Form

In the women’s race, Saoirse O’Brien put down another convincing performance, this time leading the entire first wave out of the water with one of the quickest swims of the day over the 750m course. Impressively O’Brien also had the quickest bike of the women’s field, no mean feat considering she is riding a road bike with many others on TT. Finishing in 1:09:55, this is Saoirse O’Brien’s first Triathlon National Series outing of the year – it will be interesting to see where she stands once the rankings are released on Thursday.

Aisling Wyer has had a busy week, finishing fifth as a first time guide with Chloe MacCombe in last week’s European Para Triathlon Championships, and back to the Triathlon National Series this week. Wyer put in a solid performance across the three disciplines to secure second spot on the podium.

Chasing down O’Brien and Wyer all morning, Megan Roberts had the fastest run split of the field to take third. Roberts follows up fourth in Athy with third in Skerries for her first podium of the year.

In the men’s event, Ciaran Kyne had his first ever Triathlon National Series win this weekend, moving up a step on the podium from his second place Skerries finish in 2024. Kyne has been having a good season so far, with a fourth place finish at TriAthy and has his sights set on the Middle Distance Champs at TriTyrone.

Eddy O’Byrne also moves up a step on the podium from his 2024 Skerries finishing spot, completing in 1:07:29 this year to secure second. O’Byrne’s first podium of 2025 will surely move Dublin club Belpark up the National Series Rankings following their release on Thursday, watch this space!

Ernest Asensio Blasco has also been having a strong start to his 2025 season, having his highest scoring race at TriAthy last month, and now his first Triathlon National Series podium. An impressive 18:11 for 5k secured the final spot on the Skerries Triathlon podium.
