For the first time in eight years, a local man has won the Sheephaven Half distance race in Downings, County Donegal.

Sheephaven Triathlon is often considered one of the hardest, hilliest races in the country, however Mark McGinley of 247 Letterkenny Club and Helen Perry of Lisburn Triathlon Club were on form to take the top spots in their respective races.

McGinley was followed home by Donal Sheehy (AMS Triathlon) in 2nd place and Conor Maguire (Omagh TC) completed the men’s podium.

Helen Perry, who also won in 2022 & 2024, produced a fantastic performance posting the fastest bike and run splits among the women’s field. Mary Hearty crossed the line for 2nd place, while Rebecca Carr took 3rd.
