James Edgar 2025 World Triathlon Championship Series Hamburg – Elite Men’s, 12th July 2025

Competing in his second World Triathlon Championship Series race of the season following Abu Dhabi in February, James Edgar returns to Hamburg, a course he raced in his only other WTCS race last year.

Since Abu Dhabi, Edgar competed at the Lievin Indoor World Cup and the SuperTri Esports World Championships in London. Most recently, he delivered a strong performance at the French Grand Prix, competing against several athletes expected in Hamburg and gaining valuable experience heading into the technical course this weekend.

Looking ahead to Melilla the following week, this year’s European Championships will be held over the sprint distance, a shift from last year’s super sprint heats and finals format, where he placed fourth.

Tune in from 15:20 tomorrow, Saturday 12th July on Triathlonlive.tv.

2025 World Triathlon Mixed Relay Championships Hamburg – Sunday, 13th July

A squad of five Team Ireland athletes has travelled to Hamburg for the Mixed Team Relay World Championships on Sunday; Erin McConnell, James Edgar, Hollie Elliott, Russell White and Jonathan Oakey.

Coming off a career-best 11th place finish at the Tiszaujvaros World Cup, Erin McConnell showed strong form across a demanding weekend, with semi-final and final sprint races on Saturday and Sunday. Recovery will be key as she looks to carry that momentum forward in Hamburg.

James Edgar is set to join the team following his race in the Elite Men’s event.

Hollie Elliott has had a convincing start to her season after a run of strong performances, finishing fifth and sixth at competitive European Cups in Olsztyn and Wels respectively.

Serving in a dual role as both coach and athlete this weekend, Russell White brings good form after an eighth place finish at Challenge Gran Canaria and Pamplona European Middle Distance Championships, and has had a block of consistent training since recently relocating to the National Triathlon Centre in Limerick.

Tokyo Olympian White is an experienced competitor with extensive WTCS experience and multiple individual starts in Hamburg. It will be Russell’s 130th World Triathlon start, and having the chance to race with Team Ireland in a Mixed Team Relay World Championships is a milestone he has long aspired to.

Jonny Oakey had strong performances in Wels and Olsztyn European Cups and had a very strong performance in Hamburg relay in 2023 in the Junior and U23 World Championships Relay.

The race startlist can be found HERE.

This weekend presents a great challenge, with a larger field of 22 teams in this competition. Ireland will go into Sunday ranked 17th and off the back of Ireland’s best ever finish in a Mixed Team Relay earlier this year in Abu Dhabi. While the team’s form has improved since the start of the season, the competition in the field is increasingly intense as is the challenge posed by the demanding Hamburg relay course.
