The UCI Junior Track World Championships takes place from August 20th-24th in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. This remains the only discipline that has a stand-alone UCI World Championships for Juniors, and this year Ireland will have a team of five representatives, up from just one at last year’s event.
The team of five male riders remains unchanged from the squad that attended the Junior/U23 European Championships in Portugal last month, and include Scratch Race silver medallist from that competition, Max Fitzgerald.
The team traveling to Apeldoorn is:
- Max Fitzgerald
- Elliott McKeegan
- George Sevastopulo
- Philip O’Connor
- Luca Holmes
Upon announcing the team, High Performance Development Coach Martyn Irvine said, “There were huge lessons learned for all of these riders at the European Champs in Anadia in July, and we’re looking to keep progressing here. We found some success at Euros, and have had strong performances elsewhere with this group, so we’ll be hoping to continue that success against some of the best in the world.”
The team have travelled to Scotland this week for a pre-competition camp as they make final preparations.
