Following bronze medal success on the opening day of the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore, Róisín Ní Riain was continued to impress winning silver in the 100m Breaststroke Final (S13).
The double Paralympic Games medallist, who placed fourth in the same event just over a year ago at the Paris Paralympic Games, came through the heat as third fastest qualifier with a time of 1:20.04.
Competing from lane three, Ní Riain headed into the final 50 metres in third place, trailing behind Paralympic silver medallist, Olivia Chambers of the United States and Marian Polo Lopez of Spain.
The National Centre (Limerick) swimmer increased her pace in the second half of the race, climbing into second place in a time of 1:18.78 to win the World Para silver medal, finishing just behind Team USA swimmer Chambers.
Speaking after the final Ní Riain said, “I’m pretty pleased with that swim. This event has been a bit up and down this season but yeah to be able to come out and put I think my best swim together when it matters in a close race is great.”
The final three members of the Para swimming squad will kick off their campaigns tomorrow on day three, when they take to the pool for their opening events.
Deaten Registe is first up in the SB14 100m Breaststroke, Dearbhaile Brady goes straight to a final in the SM6 200m Individual Medley, and Barry McClements lines up for the S9 100m Butterfly.
