Daragh Morgan from Malahide in Dublin made history this week completing the first ever tidal assisted swim around the entire island of Ireland.
Now living in Galway this voyage was 6 years in the planning for Daragh, it finally began at the end of May this year and ended this week in the waters just off the Clare Coast.
Spending 338 hours in the water, with an average of 4 hours of swimming a day covering approximately 15km daily, it took him 5 months to complete the 1,468 km swim all around Ireland.
Daragh battled, wild seas, ever changing inclement weather and jellyfish stings, despite all the challenges and obstacles he faced, he battled on, every swim stroke a testament to his grit, passion and determination to complete the challenge.
The incredible adventure was skippered by Dara Bailey, from Leitir Mór in Galway who provided a constant support to Daragh in and out of the water on this around Ireland expedition.
The challenge aptly called Swim Éire was not only a personal endeavour by endurance athlete Daragh, but also an opportunity to give back and raise funds for two national charities the Simon Community and RNLI. To date €27,000 has been raised for the challenge, if you would like to support it and make a donation you can click on the link HERE.
A homecoming event is scheduled to take place this Saturday 22nd November at 4:30pm at Galway Docks, so if you are inspired by the epic adventure and achievement of Daragh and his incredible crew be sure to pop down!
Daragh will be joining the Tri Talking Sport podcast in the coming days so stay tuned for lots of incredible insight into his epic adventure!
