Over 100 athletes gathered in Athy for the Flat Out Duathlon on Sunday 30th of March. With the sun shining and mild conditions, competitors were treated to perfect racing weather on a flat and fast course. The course featured a 3km run, followed by a 23km bike leg, and a final 3km run to the finish.
Women’s Race
In the women’s race, Lara Buck (Wicklow Tri Club) took the win in 01:08:42. Buck set a strong pace from the start with a 00:10:56 first run, maintained control on the bike with a 00:43:40 split, and closed out with a 00:12:09 final run to secure victory.
Andrea Brennan (Belpark Tri Club) trailed closely behind to take second place in 01:08:58. Brennan’s 00:12:11 first run was followed by a 00:40:41 bike leg, the fastest women’s split of the day, and a 00:14:00 final run to seal her spot on the podium.
Chrissy Harford (Portmarnock Tri Club) finished in third place in 01:09:42. Her 00:11:11 first run, 00:43:13 bike leg, and 00:13:09 final run capped off a strong performance to secure a podium finish.
Men’s Race
The men’s race saw a dominant performance from Conor Hennebry (Tried and Tested Triathlon Club), who took the win in an impressive time of 00:58:21. Hennebry set the pace early with a 00:10:05 opening run, followed by the fastest bike split of the day (00:34:37) and a strong final 00:11:57 run to seal victory.
In second place, Gary Condell (Trilogy Tri Club) put in a solid performance, clocking 00:59:16 overall. His consistency across all three disciplines, including a 00:10:26 first run and 00:11:47 final run, ensured he claimed the runner-up spot.
The podium was rounded out by Aidan Kelly (Galway Tri Club), finishing the race in just over an hour (01:00:20). Kelly’s strong 00:10:33 first run and 00:11:38 final run helped him secure his place on the podium.
