Blackwater Triathlon Race Report

This Sunday, June 23rd, 200 athletes travelled to Fermoy to take on the Blackwater Olympic Distance Triathlon as part of the Triathlon National Series. The event also hosted a Super Sprint and Aquavelo race for their participants.

The race kicked off at the Blackwater River, with the athletes entering from the slipway of the Fermoy Rowing Club. Starting with a deepwater start the athletes then swam 700m upstream before their 800m downstream.

The 40km bike course consisted of two laps through Fermoy, starting on the Mallow Road. Moving from the bike into the run, the event took a new run course this year, hosting an undulating out-and-back course along Rathealy road

In the women’s race, Deirdre Casey from TriDubai was the first home, with an overall time of 02:17:00. Liquid motion’s, Stephen Donnelly was the first home in the men’s race, with an overall time of 02:04:50.
