Cycling Connacht Live / Beo With Olympian David O’ Loughlin

ByJoanne Murphy |

This Friday night 2nd April at 8pm Cycling Connacht will host their third Facebook Live Show of the season with some very special guests. I’ll be chatting with Olympian David O’ Loughlin who put The Quiet Man village of Cong in the spotlight when he embraced a career in cycling that saw him race all over the World with a career high that brought him to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The journey to Beijing saw him ply his trade first in Ireland then to Italy, France and Belgium that eventually saw him secure a professional contract with USA Cycle team Navigators where David raced against the best riders in the world at that time.

During the live show we will dig deep into his pursuit of a passion that took him from the back roads and trails of County Mayo to the bright lights of success in sport as a road and track International cyclist. He won the National Elite Road race Championship three times with heroic rides in the Ras Tailteann and the professional Tour of Ireland. When David changed disciplines to bikes with no brakes on the track he made history by winning Ireland’s first UCI World Cup Track medal.

David will share some insights into his career in cycling whilst also sharing some thoughts on how we can encourage, support, engage and inspire youth riders on their road to fun, adventure and success in cycling. David will be joined by good friends and fellow cyclists Gary Collins and Padraig Marrey for a lively and fun discussion.

Tune in to the live show from 8pm on the Cycling Connacht Facebook page HERE
