The Cyclo-Cross National Series is back, with 4 rounds being held across the country.
Round 1 will be hosted by VC Glendale in Falls Park, Belfast on October 12th, with Round 2 following on October 26th when EPIC MTB host in The GAP. Round 3 is to be hosted by Greenmount Academy in the Limerick Racecourse on the 30th November. The series will wrap up in Ballinasloe, where last season’s National Championship hosts Ballinasloe Cycling Club host in County Galway in the New Year, on January 4th.
Last year’s series finished up in McCrystal’s track in Jenkinstown, Co. Louth, where Tadhg Killeen took the Men’s title ahead of St. Finbarr’s Richard Barry and All human/Velo Revolution’s Timothy O’Regan in second and third respectively. Stephanie Roche secured the Women’s title and was joined on the podium by McConvey Cycles’ Rachel Newell in second and Doireann Killeen in third.
Jean Wilson was crowned series winner in the Women’s Masters, with Midleton’s Sally Drennan taking second and Islandeady’s Sinead Parson’s third. The overall series title for Women’s Juniors was taken by Dungarvan’s Aoife O’Donovan, with clubmate Ami Flavin taking second. Hugh Og Mulhearne took the overall Junior Men series win, with Ciaran O’Sullivan of Greenmount taking second and Curtis McKee of Spellman-Dublin Port take third.
Ronan O’Flynn took the overall series win in the M40, ahead of Islandeady’s Trevor Costello and Team WORC’s Evan Ryan in second and third respectively. Newry Wheelers Barry Convery took the M50 series win, finishing ahead of Strabane Lifford’s Jay McCauley in second. Brian O’Connor from Lucan Cycling Road Club and Declan McEntee from Emyvale took a joint third place. Johnny McCabe’s win secured the M60 category, with Galway Bay rider Glenn Watson in second and Kevin McDowell taking third.
