Aine Doherty, Joseph Mullen, and Liam O’Brien impressed as they represented Ireland in the Cyclo-cross World Championships on Saturday, February 4th, and Sunday, February 5th.
The junior trio put in strong performances after travelling to Hoogerheide in the Netherlands to compete against the best riders in the world.
The riders are part of the Cycling Ireland ORC (Off-Road Commission) National Cyclo-Cross Development Squad and continued their development in the discipline with this exposure to international racing at the highest level.
On Saturday, Doherty battled to a 35th-place finish in the junior women’s race in her first year in the category.
Mullen and O’Brien went toe-to-toe with the best young riders in the world in the junior men’s race on Sunday.
Junior national champion O’Brien finished in 44th place while Mullen came in just nine seconds behind and in 46th place in a strong showing.
O’Brien suffered a mechanical issue during the race and battled admirably to the finish in a competitive field.
