Downhill World Cup 1 2 for Ireland

ByEmma Porter |

In a first for Irish Downhill, Oisin O’Callaghan secured the first World Cup win of his career at the UCI World Cup Downhill at Snowshoe, West Virginia. While fellow Irishman Ronan Dunne also helped make Irish Downhill history by joining O’Callaghan on the podium.

O’Callaghan had the second-fastest time in the previous day’s qualifying before the finals, moving second to last in the rotation. However, the final run of the day saw Loic Bruni crash, securing a 1-2 for the Irish duo.

Speaking after the event, he told Eurosport, “It’s surreal. I think I am about to have a heart attack… I just kept going and near the bottom, I was able to push through. There was only a small bit left, so I kept working.”
