A thrilling afternoon of athletics action unfolded today (April 28th) at the 2024 edition of the 123.ie National Road Relay Championships hosted by Raheny Shamrock AC which took place on the now familiar lap route starting on Wade’s Avenue in Raheny.

The Senior races featured many big household names of Irish athletics, and they certainly didn’t disappoint as former Irish 1500m champion Amy O’Donoghue led Dundrum South Dublin AC to gold in the senior women’s race (20:38).

O’Donoghue was joined on her free-striding team by talented duo Eimear Maher and Emma McEvoy.

Hot on the Dublin club’s heels were a Tullamore Harriers team which featured the Donegan sisters, Nadine and Danielle, along with Niamh O’Connor. They crossed the line in 20:43.

A strong UCD outfit which featured Kate Nurse, Fiona McKenna and Ellie Hartnett won bronze (20:45).

Clonliffe Harriers comfortably retained their senior men’s title thanks in no small part to Efrem Gidey who showed his unquestionable class during his three mile leg.

Gidey split 13:42 and looked relaxed throughout building a lead in excess of forty seconds.

Strong runs also from Colm Rooney, Fintan Kerins and Ian Guiden saw the Dublin club finish in a time of 37:00.

Ennis Track AC’s polished quartet of Oisin Spillane, Dylan Casey, Niall Murphy and Mark Hanrahan won silver (37:40), while host club Raheny Shamrock AC, who had Cillian Kirwan, Kieran Kelly, Shane Spring and Juan Ignacio Pena at their disposal, won bronze (37:46).

In the opening race of the day, the Master Women’s, Sportsworld Running Club regained the O35 title they had lost last year in fine fashion, ahead of Raheny Shamrock AC and Metro St. Brigid’s AC who won silver and bronze respectively.

Ennis Track AC were big winners of the Women’s O50 race, finishing ahead of silver medallists Raheny Shamrock AC and bronze medallists Finn Valley AC.

There was delight for the home club Raheny as they won the Men’s O35 gold ahead of Clonliffe Harriers AC (silver) and Drogheda and District AC (bronze).

City of Derry Spartans AC won the Men’s O50 title ahead of Inishowen AC and Metro St. Brigid’s AC who rounded off the podium.
