James Edgar was in action for Ireland last weekend at the 2025 T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup Liévin. The indoor triathlon takes place in front of over 5,000 spectators accompanied by a DJ in front of breathtaking short, lightning fast racing.
The race format involves a 200 meter swim, 2.8 kilometer bike around the track over 14 laps, and a 1 kilometer run. 12 athletes take to the startline in each round, with 5 qualifier rounds taking place to start the days racing, with the fastest athletes moving from qualifier to semi-finals, to finals, while the slower athletes from the qualifying round still have the opportunity to move through the rounds by racing the Repechage.
Edgar’s day started well with the Irishman qualifying in 2nd position, behind Hayden Wilde, in the opening qualifying round. Poland’s Mateusz Gluszkowski blasted through the 200m swim to take an early lead, however Edgar posted the fastest run split of the qualifier to secure his spot in the semi-final.
Edgar then led home semi-final two 11 seconds faster than his qualifier round, again boasting the fastest run split in his race to take a narrow victory ahead of GB’s Jack Willis. His 2:39 for the 1k run also equals Casper Stornes’ World Cup record from 2024.
Diving into the final 200m swim, Edgar swam his fastest split of the event, exiting the water in 4th place. He then produced the fast bike split of his race day before finishing in 9th place overall in the Elite Men’s race. The race was ultimately won by Germany’s Henry Graf, with Antoine Duval of France securing silver, Mitch Kolkman of the Netherlands rounding out the podium.
