Olympic Champion Daniel Wiffen and Olympic Finalist Ellen Walshe will spearhead Swim Ireland’s 13-strong team into the European Aquatics Championships (25m) from December 2nd to 7th in Lublin, Poland.

Both swimmers were medallists at the 2023 iteration of the event, with Wiffen claiming 400m, 800m and 1500m Gold, as well as setting a World Record in the 800m Freestyle, while Walshe won 400m Individual Medley Bronze.

While Wiffen has been recovering from surgery in September, and making the move to train in California, Walshe has been on the World Aquatics World Cup tour where she has picked up a gold, two silver and a bronze medal, as well as setting two new Irish Records so far.

The duo are joined by World Aquatics Championships finalist Ellie McCartney, and semi-finalists Evan Bailey, John Shortt and Tom Fannon.

There are three senior international debutants on the team in Adam Bradley (Mount Kelly), Matthew Hamilton (Plymouth) and Denis O’Brien (National Centre Limerick); the trio had represented Ireland at the European Junior Championships during the Summer, while National Centre Ulster’s Rosalie Phelan will make her full Ireland debut in Lublin.

2025 World Championships teamers Jack Cassin, Eoin Corby and Cormac Rynn, all of National Centre Limerick, complete the team.

Mona McSharry has opted not to travel to this years’ European Short Course Championships.
