Galway 5k Series Goes Virtual for 2021

ByJoanne Murphy |

Galway Athletics County Board have announced that the Galway 5k Series will go ahead in May 2021 as a virtual series. Traditionally the series would see up to 1,000 people running, jogging and walking through six Co Galway towns, keeping everyone on their toes for a few weeks over the Summer.

The 2021 edition will be the 15th Anniversary of the popular running series after the 2020 Series was cancelled due to Covid19. It will run from 1st May to the 1st June and will consist of five weekly 5k runs, participants will upload their individual results and a full, detailed results list will be published weekly.

The Galway 5k Series is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities and is the ideal opportunity to take part in an organised series and gauge your progress. Participants can compete against family, friends, colleagues or clubmates but the main emphasis is on getting out and enjoying yourself.

Going Virtual & Global

The 2021 series will be a worldwide event providing an ideal opportunity for Irish people abroad and the wider diaspora to take part in a Galway based event and will hopefully make them feel connected to home when they cannot physically come home.

Participants can run whenever and wherever they want each week of the series as long as it is in line with local restrictions and Covid 19 guidelines are followed. The series is being supported once again by HSE West via the Healthy Ireland initiative and particularly by Healthy Galway City and Healthy Galway County
