Clonliffe’s Efrem Gidey produced a huge performance on the roads in Valencia today, clocking 27:43 for 10k, which if ratified, breaks John Treacy’s 1985 national record (27.46).
In the 10km Valencia Ibercaja race on Sunday morning, Gidey hit a steady 13:52 five kilometre split before finishing the full distance in 27:43. Not only was this a significant chunk off his previous best of 27:57, but it shaved around three seconds off Tracy’s 27:46 mark set in 1985. If ratified, the 10k record will add to Gidey’s half marathon record he set last September in Copenhagen, clocking 60:51.
Keelan Kilrehill crossed in 73rd in the race in Valencia this morning, clocking a personal best time of his own in 28:50.
