Gold for McCarthy and Husband in Abu Dhabi

ByEmma Porter |

Donnacha McCarthy and guide Sean Husband have started their season in the best possible fashion, by winning gold at the World Triathlon Para Cup Abu Dhabi early this morning.

Speaking after the race, McCarthy stated he was delighted with his swim, that the pair had hammered the bike, and suffered a bit on the run. Despite still returning to full run fitness after an injury before Christmas, overall the pair were delighted and felt the result is a really good confidence booster going into the World Series in Devonport in March.

The race took place just below 24°C and the pair credited their camp in the canary islands assisting them in dealing with the heat and humidity. With a strong swim, McCarthy and Husband put in a blistering bike split to seal their lead and hung on to claim victory by nearly 30 seconds.

The pair will now prepare to travel to Australia for the World Triathlon Para Series Devonport in March.
