Gravity BC launches the Down Hill Series in Wicklow this weekend

ByEmma Porter |

The 2025 Irish Downhill Mountain Bike Series (IDMS) blasts out of the gates this weekend as Round 1 heads to one of the sport’s most iconic venues, Carrick Mountain in Glenealy, Co. Wicklow. Hosted by Gravity BC, this opening round on 10th & 11th May marks the return of elite-level downhill racing.

Carrick has long been a favourite on the IDMS calendar and for good reason. Known for its length and intensity, the track features high speed flow that links up big jumps, off-camber turns and technical rock sections that reward precision, control and fearlessness. It’s fast, it’s physical and it’s not for the faint of heart. With the 2025 season wide open and national ranking points up for grabs, expect a stacked field and serious competition across all categories.

Event Schedule

  • Saturday, 10th May: Seeding Runs (14:00 – 16:00)
  • Sunday, 11th May: Race Runs Runs (14:00 – 16:00)

The first round of this year’s Series sees some heavy hitters take to the track. World Cup winners Oisin O’Callaghan and Ronan Dunne will both make an appearance, as will 2024 World Cup regular and one of last years World Champs representatives in Ross Ennis. Former Enduro World Series rider Dan Wolfe will also be back on a downhill bike in Carrick.

Junior riders Ros O’Keeffe, Kyle Murray, Felim Coffey and Ben Fitzsimon were all recently endorsed by Cycling Ireland and will be competing and upcoming UCI World Cup rounds, and will be riding this weekend in Carrick. Darragh Ryan, having recently signed with World Cup team Orbea FMD Racing will also take to Carrick Mountain.

Hannah Mullin, second place in last year’s National Championships, will face stiff competition in a strong Women’s field, including Cat Brady and Simone O’Kelly.
