ByEmma Porter |

The shortlist for the 2022 Her Sport Awards has been published, and we are delighted to see a number of our fabulous Tri Talking Sport podcast guests have made been nominated! You can read all about each of the amazing nominees by clicking HERE, and have your say by voting for who you think should win Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, and Young Athlete of the Year.

Katie O’Brien

The Galweigan para-rower has her eyes and heart set on a gold medal at the Paralympics in Paris in 2024. Born with a severe case of spina bifida, which affected her left leg and parts of the left side of her body, she has excelled in rowing in recent years after picking up the sport in her mid-teens.

Katie is nominated for Athlete of the Year, after her phenomenal year which included winning a World Championship medal at the World Rowing Championships 2022 in the PR2 single sculls finishing 10 seconds ahead of reigning world champion Australian Kathryn Ross. O’Brien had also won gold earlier in the year setting a world record at the PR2 Single Sculls event at the World Cup II in Poznan, Poland.

We spoke with Katie last summer, you can listen back HERE.

Katie-George Dunlevy & Eve McCrystal

These two need no introduction, and are rightly nominated for the Team of the Year Award. The Irish paralympic tandem cycling duo are amongst the most successful para athletes to have ever represented Ireland having medalled consistently at World and Paralympic Games since 2014.

If you would like to get an insight into their backgrounds in sport, how they came together as a team, their success as a duo and the commitment, passion and dedication they have, not only to their sport but their individual roles as part of this dynamic duo, then click here to listen back to our chat in 2020.

Naoise O’Donnell

Although we haven’t had her on the podcast, we want to highlight the achievements of Galway girl, 19 year-old Triathlete Naoise O’Donnell, nominated in the Young Athlete of the Year category.

The Galway TC member took gold in the 18-19 category at the Europe Triathlon Middle Distance Triathlon Championships in Bilbao-Bizkaia in September of this year, and 2nd place in the 16-19 Aquathlon at the same tournament.

O’Donnell was crowned World Triathlon Champion in Abu Dhabi in November 2022 in her age group (18-19) rounding out as superb season of racing for the Galway girl!
