IAU 24-Hour World Championship 2025 Selection

Athletics Ireland has announced the selection process for the national team that will compete in the 2025 IAU 24-Hour World Championships in Albi, France. The IAU 24 Hour World Championship is an international 24-hour run competition organised by the International Association of Ultrarunners. Athletics Ireland are committed to assembling a competitive team of both men and women athletes to represent Ireland on the world stage. The team size will be confirmed at the final selection meeting.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for selection, athletes must meet the following criteria:

  • Achieve the minimum qualifying distance of 220km for men and 200km for women within the 24 months preceding the competition date (by October 18, 2023).
  • Demonstrate consistent performance in races of similar distances.
  • Provide proof of current form with results from races of 6 hours or longer:
    • 6-hour distance: 80km for men / 71km for women (IAU National Standard)
    • 12-hour distance: 133km for men / 121km for women (IAU National Standard)
  • Achieved distances/results in an IAU-labelled race.
  • Be eligible to compete for Ireland (hold an Irish passport).
  • Be a registered member of an Athletics Ireland affiliated club.
  • Be injury-free.

Expressions of Interest

Athletes must submit their expressions of interest by Friday, April 18th. The final team will be announced during the first week of May. Athletes should note that declaring an interest does not guarantee selection.

Interested athletes should send their expressions of interest to patryan@athleticsireland.ie with “IAU 24hr World Championships 2025” as the subject.

Athlete Contribution

Selected athletes will be required to contribute towards the funding of this event. The exact amount will depend on the final team size.

 

N.B. The Irish 24 hour national championships will be held in Leixlip , County Kildare on Saturday 5th April.
