International Triathlon Weekend Round Up

ByEmma Porter |

Russell White was in action over the weekend at the World Triathlon Cup Hong Kong, for a short and fast shoot out over sprint distance. White opened his 2024 racing season with 48th overall, and now turns his focus to the 2024 World Triathlon Cup Wollongong on the 20th of April, another sprint distance race with a strong start list.

Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira

James Edgar crossed continents to take to the start line ranked number 1 for the 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira. However, Edgar made the difficult decision to withdraw from the race during the bike section, stating that he had taking “a bit of a gamble racing back to back Olympic distance races on 2 different continents”  and that despite making “the breakaway out of the water going onto the bike in 5th before the travel caught up with [him] and the effort far outweighed the output.”

Edgar will return to action next weekend at the 2024 World Triathlon Indoor Cup Lievin. The short format of 150m swim, 3km bike, and 1km run, has previously suited him, finishing 5th here in 2022, a mere ten seconds back on the gold medal winner and former WTCS Champion, Vincent Luis.

Also racing in Quarteira, at the Europe Junior Cup, were Sean McMahon, Ethan Doherty, and Mathys Bocquet. The three finished in 46th, 54th, and 55th, respectively, gaining valuable international experience early in the season and their athlete careers.
