International Triathlon Weekend Round Up; Carr and McCarron in Action in Tunis

ByEmma Porter |

Triathlon Ireland had two athletes in action this weekend at the 2023 Africa Triathlon Cup Les Berges du Lac – Tunis.

Liz Carr made her debut at continental cup level. Having battled back from injury over the past year, she made her return to racing at the end of September at the Moby Dick Sprint Distance Triathlon in Youghal, which she won in dominant fashion with an eleven minute lead over 2nd place.

Exiting the water very close behind the lead group, she was part of a smaller chase pack for the bike segment but put in a good run to finish 9th overall. She now switches her focus to the upcoming 2023 Africa Triathlon Cup Agadir on the 19th of November.

In the Men’s field, Luke McCarron was back in action representing Ireland. A consistent display across swim, bike, and run brought him across the line in 10th position. In similar circumstances to Carr, McCarron narrowly missed the front pack in the swim, forcing a chase on the bike. However, with less than 30 seconds separating 6th and 10th McCarron will be leaving Tunis motivated to leave it all out there at the 2023 Asia Triathlon Cup Hong Kong.
