ByJoanne Murphy |

Runninghome.ie is an initiative for Irish expats to run the distance from where they live now to their hometown in Ireland, while raising funds Focus Ireland and The Peter McVerry Trust, chosen charities for this running initiative.

This yearlong campaign is as much about solidarity for Irish abroad as it is about creating positive actions for those who need homes in Ireland. The initiative started on Feb 1st and has gathered lots of momentum with 800 runners signed up from all over the world with almost €15,000 raised to date, the initiative will continue until Dec 31st of this year.

Launching their Green Campaign on Earth Day, April 22nd runners receive weekly tips on ‘how to green their run’ and also have the opportunity to win flights home to Ireland, kindly donated from Running Home sponsor Aer Lingus. The raffle will take place on Oceans Day June 8th. In support of the Green Campaign, partners grownforest.ie will plant trees in Ireland to offset all the carbon emissions from the flights.
