Irish Triathletes at 2023 European Games

ByEmma Porter |

For the first time, a full team of four athletes will take on both the individual and Mixed Team Relay events at the European Games in Krakow.

The team of James Edgar, Carolyn Hayes, Erin McConnell, and Luke McCarron have all travelled to Poland and are ready to race in both the individual and team events this week. The women’s triathlon is on Tuesday the 27th of June, the men’s triathlon on Wednesday, and the Mixed Team Relay will take place this Saturday.

HAYES & MCCONNELL IN WOMEN’S EVENT

In Tuesday’s Women’s Triathlon, Ireland’s Carolyn Hayes and Erin McConnell will take on some top names around the standard distance course.

Hayes first international start this year will see the Tokyo Olympian start her summer season. For McConnell, this will be her first start since her recent National Sprint Championship win at TriAthy earlier this month and she will be hoping to repeat the strong form displayed there.

Carolyn and Erin’s race will be streamed live for free at europeangames.tv, with race start at 9am (Irish time) on Tuesday, 27th June.

EDGAR & MCCARRON IN ACTION ON WEDNESDAY

James Edgar and Luke McCarron have both had strong starts to their 2023 seasons. Earlier in the year James Edgar had three podiums from four races, finishing with a career best win at the Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck.

In February, Luke McCarron had a top ten placing at the Asia Triathlon Cup Hong Kong, the best result of his young career.

James and Luke’s race will be streamed live for free at europeangames.tv, with race start at 9am (Irish time) on Wednesday, 28th June.

MIXED TEAM RELAY

All four athletes will take part in Saturday’s Mixed Team Relay. Tune in on europeangames.tv from 9am (Irish time) on Saturday, 1st July.
