Keith Russell Goes The Distance In The Backyard Ultra

ByJoanne Murphy |
Ultra Runner Keith Russell ran himself into the history books late last night to become the second last man standing at the Race of Champions Backyard Masters in Germany.

Breaking the world record with Merijn Geerts at 85 laps, the two continued on until Merijn became the eventual race champion completing 90 laps of the course. Last year Russell managed to complete 63 laps, this year he hugely improved on that performance to out last all but the final finisher at the gruelling race

Racing for 89 laps (6.7km every hour since Saturday) Keith covered and incredible  597km in a time of   66:14:22 A phenomenal achievement for the Navan native who also holds the Irish Backyard Ultra record.

Keith joined us on the podcast  in June of last year to share his story, you can check out HERE
