Kelly and Crowley Top Podium in Navan

The 2026 road season officially got underway with the Seamus Kennedy memorial hosted by Navan RC, on Sunday 1st of March.

Running as the first National Single Grade Road Race of 2026, the Seamus Kennedy Memorial included four races – C1, C2, C3 and Women’s. Entries were high across all categories, with over 170 riders taking to the Co Meath roads.

The C1 riders had to complete three laps of the 41.1km circuit, totaling 114km. While the other races all completed two circuits, bringing their total to 76km.

Each race began with a neutralised start from race HQ at Navan Racecourse until they turned right in Kilberry. The C1 race was first off at 11:30am, with five minutes between each of the remaining races.

The race finish was at Wilkinstown Community Centre, making for great viewing for spectators as riders battled up the hill.

It was Liam Crowley, riding for Orwell Wheelers who came out on top in the C1 category. Hot on his heels and getting their seasons off to a strong start was Daire Feeley of Burren Cycling Club in second and Gareth O’Neill for Athlete Nutrition Coach Nordic Labs in third.

Riley Smith clenched victory in the C2, riding for Banbridge CC. He finished ahead of junior riders James Mackey for Foyle CC in second and Andrew Connolly for Dungarvan CC in third.

Getting her season off to a great start, Linda Kelly, riding for Dan Morrissey Pissei Cycling Team, stormed home to win the Women’s category. Her teammate Aine Doherty was second and junior rider Ysabella Huele completed the podium for Rudyco Cycling Team vzw.

In a display of camaraderie and sportsmanship Kilcullen Cycling Club Murphy Geospacial junior riders Conor Regan and Tom Hughes Approached the finish line together with Hughes slipping back to give Reagan the win. Completing the podium was fellow junior rider Benjamin Bergin for Lucan CC.

The season is off to a busy start with the next National Single Grade Road Race taking place on Sunday, 8th of March. The Sliabh Luachra Clasacai, will include races for C1, C2, C3 and Women. Entries can be found HERE.
