Island Wheelers will host the Championships from June 22nd to 25th with the time trial and road races set to take place along the roads of Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.
The best Irish riders competing both domestically and internationally converge on Co. Tyrone in what is sure to be a memorable weekend of racing.
An exciting 2022 National Championships saw Rory Townsend crowned men’s national champion while Alice Sharpe took the women’s national champion jersey after a brilliant weekend of racing in Kanturk, Co. Cork.
This year’s Championships are sure to be bigger than ever with the time trial and road race courses set to bring riders along some challenging roads in both Co. Tyrone and Co. Armagh.
And with the 2023 Rás Tailteann concluding a month before the Championships and Rounds Four and Five of the Road National Championship taking place on June 4th and 11th, riders will be well prepared for the biggest weekend of the domestic road season.
The time trial National Championships takes place on Thursday, June 22nd, while the men’s junior road race is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th. The women’s junior road race is scheduled for Sunday, June 25th.
The senior women’s road race is set for Saturday, June 24th, while the championships conclude with the senior men’s road race on Sunday, June 25th.
The 2023 Road National Championships will also be the first time an U23 category will be included in the senior women’s race, with medals awarded to the top three U23 riders over the line.
Jim Kelly, Island Wheelers Chairperson, said, “On behalf of everyone in Island Wheelers Cycling Club we are delighted and excited about hosting the Irish 2023 Cycling Road and TT National championships. We welcome riders and spectators from all over Ireland and beyond to Dungannon, Co.Tyrone on the last weekend of June. As a club who are forefront in the local/national road racing and TT scene we have had club members with previous success at these National Championships.
“Finally with the courses we have selected we hope that these will lead to a very competitive and safe championships for all involved. We have selected 2 routes for the TT both of which we hope will be perfect tests for all the competitors. We’re excited for a full announcement of the road race and time trial courses on May 1st.”
