Hosted by Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club, the 2024 Hill Climb National Championship took place on Saturday 5th of October in Marley Park.
Over 25 starters battled it out in the Open Senior division. Victory went to Killian O’Brien for Veleka Team, in an impressive time of 7:18. Ruairi Byrne finished second for UCD and Gareth O’Neill was third for Athlete Nutrition Coach HD. There was only one second separating Byrne and O’Neill, finishing on 7:21 and 7:22 respectively.
Host club Orwell Wheelers filled the top two places in the Women’s category. Caoimhe May topped the podium in a time of 9:31. Clare Dillon was second in 10:17 and Niamh O’Dwyer was third for Black House Racing in 10:20.
In the M40 category, Stuart McCaughey won his third consecutive Hill Climb national championship title in this division. He finished in a time of 7:50, riding for Phoenix Cycling Club. Ronan Killeen was second for Lucan Cycling Road Club and Un-attached Leinster rider Conor McTiernan was third.
Neil McKenna won the M50 division for AHC Racing. Dermot Radford was second for Black House Racing and Greg Swinand completed the podium for Team Dan Morrissey – Primor by Pissei.
In the M60 category, John Madden topped the podium for Inspired Cycling, Eamonn Byrd was second for Dublin Wheelers and Victor Morgan was third for St. Finbarrs Cycling Club.
There were also two non-championship categories on the day. The Under 16 non-championship category was won by Bob Maye of Clonard RC and the non-championship category went to Hugh Langan or Orwell Wheelers.
