Para Swim Team Secure Five Medals in Barcelona World Series

Eight Irish swimmers took to the water at the 2025 Para Swimming World Series in Barcelona, marking the first time the Spanish city has hosted this prestigious event. From 20–23 March, the team competed in four days of exciting, high-level competition.

The team, composed of a mix of seasoned Paralympians and rising stars, included Barry McClements, Róisín Ní Riain, Dearbhaile Brady, and Deaten Registe, all of whom brought a wealth of experience to the competition. Alongside them were four promising athletes from the performance pathway squad; Síomha Brady, Luke Brennan, Ellie Lynch, and Luke O’Donoghue.

The team finished the four day competition with five medals in total (four from A finals and one youth medal) and a number of personal best swims across the squad.

Deaten Registe made the podium winning a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke A final with a time of 1:07.96 to win Ireland’s first medal. Róisín Ní Riain swam in two finals, setting a new PB in 100m freestyle B final (1:01.73).

Ní Riain secured the team’s second medal on Day Three winning silver in the 200m IM A final in a time of 2:31.82. The Limerick swimmer continued her strong form into the last day of competition securing bronze in the 400m freestyle with an impressive time of 4:45.43.

Dearbhaile Brady had an outstanding performance on Day Four of the competition, securing two impressive medals. She earned a bronze in the 50m butterfly with a time of 38.42, before adding a gold in the Youth 50m freestyle final with a time of 37.47.
