Triathlon Ireland is inviting expressions of interest from individuals interested in supporting developing and elite Para-triathletes by becoming part of their national guide pool.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-performance sport and play a meaningful role in the Para-triathlon community. No previous guiding experience is required – just a strong sporting background, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Ireland’s para-triathletes proved their calibre with performances that captured international attention. Twin sisters Chloe and Judith MacCombe competed in the PTVI category for athletes with visual impairments, finishing sixth and eighth respectively. Chloe was guided by Catherine Sands, while Judith competed alongside Eimear Nicholls.
The PTVI (Para-triathlon Visually Impaired) category involves close collaboration between the athlete and their guide. Pairs complete the swim tethered together, race on a tandem bike during the cycling leg, and run side-by-side using a tether. It’s a dynamic and demanding classification that requires trust, communication, and precision teamwork.
If you’re interested in joining the Para-triathlon programme as a guide, the application form can be found HERE.
