Remembrance Run 5K Returns For 10 Year Anniversary

ByJoanne Murphy |

Frank Greally was on hand to officially launch the 2021 Remembrance Run 5k– the unique and hugely popular Walk or Run event that takes place in the Phoenix Park on Sunday, November 14th.

Remembrance Run 5K supported by SPAR is a unique event that encourages people of all levels of fitness to Walk, Jog or Run together over 5 kilometres in the Phoenix Park on a November Sunday morning, while remembering and dedicating their participation in the event to family or friends. This year the event celebrates 10 years of running and Remembrance.

Frank Greally, who in association with Athletics Ireland in 2012 founded the Remembrance Run5k said:

“It feels like ten years have simply vanished since I came up with the idea for the Remembrance Run 5K as a great way to celebrate the memory of my dear friend the writer Con Houlihan.  Con and I often talked about remembrance and how we all have a primal need to be remembered even in some small way. I will always be grateful that Athletics Ireland liked my idea of creating a unique Walk or Run event with choirs, music and a special Wall of Remembrance where participants could write names of deceased loved ones, family and friends. Over the years, many participants have told me that they have found special comfort in writing names of loved ones and accompanying messages on the Wall of Remembrance after they have completed the 5K.”

” The 10th Anniversary Remembrance Run 5K on Sunday, November 14th, will give us all an opportunity to pause, remember and celebrate the memory of loved ones – family and friends passed.  We will also remember all of those who have died as a result of Covid-19”.

Helen Somerville, SPAR Marketing Manager, who has been taking part in Remembrance Runsince the first edition in 2012 said:

“Remembrance Run is a really unique event, and offers us the chance to pause, and remember family and friends who have passed. SPAR are delighted to support Frank and the Remembrance Run on this special 10-year anniversary and I would encourage everyone to get involved on November 14th and experience the truly unique atmosphere that only an event like this can create”.

Remembrance Run was forced to take place virtually since 2019 and organisers are now looking forward to welcoming participants back to the 5k in the Phoenix Park. Entry for this year’s event will include the 2021 Remembrance Run 5K commemorative candle. Register for the event HERE
