Silver For MacCombe & Sands In Montreal

Irish duo Chloe MacCombe and Catherine Sands have claimed their first-ever podium spot in a World Series event at the World Triathlon Para Series in Montreal.

Before the event, World Triathlon outlined the competitive field present in Canada for this important event;

“Some of the best Para triathletes of the world will travel this weekend to Montreal, Canada, for the World Triathlon Para Series that will kick off the Paralympic Qualification period. This weekend’s action will unfold on Montreal’s famed Gilles Villeneuve Formula 1 track and the field is stacked with talent that is vying to pave their way to Paris.”

Coming out of the swim with a deficit the pair got to work on the tandem, putting in the second fastest split of the day bettered only by eventual winner, Spain’s Susana Rodriguez.

A five kilometre run split of 20:35 meant that 2022 Commonwealth Silver Medallists MacCombe and Sands moved through the field and secured their best result at a World Para Series event.

For Chloe and Catherine, a podium spot was their goal for the race achieved, speaking after the race, Chloe MacCombe summarises; “We went to the World Para Series race in Montreal aiming for a podium position, we felt confident in our pairing together as well as our fitness.”

Next Steps

Next up Chloe and Catherine head to the World Triathlon Para Series race in Swansea on the 15th of July; “We’re happy with our performance, we’re now gearing up for next weekend in Swansea with another stacked field but, as always, we’re ready for the challenge.”

Paralympic Qualification

The Montreal event kicks off an all-important Paris 2024 Paralympic Qualification period. This result will mean that Chloe and Catherine have earned solid points at the start of their campaign to qualify for Paris 2024.
