The Fields Are Alive With The Pounding of Runners

ByJoanne Murphy |

The Fields of Athenry 10k, typically held on 26th December each year had an enforced break in 2020 due to Covid19, but the much anticipated and loved event is back for 2021.

Hosted by Athenry AC the event is popular with runners from Galway and beyond who enjoy the brisk chilly weather and the undulating terrain of the 10k route, the chance to run off the Christmas excess whilst meeting with friends old and new. For many the event is as much of a tradition as having turkey for Christmas dinner.

As always the race hat is a welcome bonus for all those participating, with the colour for this year a closely guarded secret.  Be warned, this race sells out fast and this year is no exception with the pre 30th September early bird discounted entry of €20 quickly snapped up by lots of eager participants, myself included.

Race entry is now €25 and the event is expected to sell out soon, so don’t be disappointed by missing out, or why not gift an entry to your running buddy this Christmas.

Registration is on the link HERE, more information about the event can be found on www.athenry10k.com
