Three More Finals for Team Ireland at Para World Swimming Championships

Róisín Ní Riain and Barry McClements were in the pool early this morning on Day 6 of the Para Swimming World Championships. Both booked their places in this evening’s finals for Team Ireland which means three swimmers will be in action during this evening’s session.

Ní Riain was first in the pool and qualified for her final in 3rd place with a time of 04:48.11.

Speaking after her heat Ní Riain said, “I’m happy with that swim and hopefully I can build on that tonight and go faster than that in the final.”

McClements placed fourth in his 100m backstroke heat with a time of 01:06.37. Speaking after his heat McClements said, “Yeah it went ok, I think there was still a bit of fatigue from last night from that 400m swim but hopefully I can come back tonight and get a personal best.”

Evening Finals

Nicole Turner is the third Irish swimmer in action today, her 100m Breaststroke final is at 7:43pm.

All three Irish swimmers in posted season best times in their respective finals this evening at the Para Swimming World Championships.

Ní Riain placed 5th in her final with a time of 04:42.74. She has her final event tomorrow, the 200m IM.

Speaking after her final Ní Riain said, “I’m happy enough with it, I would like to be a little bit faster maybe under my PB but it’s a long race and I’ve not done that much freestyle work this year so a time like that I’ll take it.”

McClements finished out his championship on a strong note also posting a season best of 01:05.90.

Speaking after his race McClements said, “It went good, I was focusing more on the 100m fly this year but that’s my fourth fastest time ever so I’m happy.”

Turner was last to compete in this evening’s session finising 5th overall with a time of 01:41.35.

Speaking after her final Turner said, “Being two seconds away from a bronze medal some would say can be heart wrenching but to be honest I really enjoyed that event. It is an event that I love to swim whether it be a medal performance or not I just love to get into it and have a bit of fun.”

Tomorrow is the penultimate day of the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships and again a busy day for Team Ireland.

Tokyo gold medallist Ellen Keane takes to the pool at 9:05 starting her quest to conquer the 100m Breaststroke. Róisín Ní Riain has her final event tomorrow. Her 200m Individual Medley heat is at 10:36am. Both swimmers will hope to progress to the finals of their respective events Sunday evening.

Tokyo silver medallist Nicole Turner and Dearbhaile Brady face off against each other in the 50m Butterfly final at 7.23pm. This will be Brady’s first appearance at a world championships.
