The 2023 Triathlon National Series got off to a strong start with perfect weather and great racing at Tri795 in Carlow.

Nearly 400 competitors completed the sprint distance triathlon which was won by Conor Mullany and Emma O’Brien.

In the women’s race, O’Brien took an early lead with the fastest swim split of the women’s field by over a minute, placing her in the top 5 of the men’s swim times also. Second-place and third-place finishers Megan Roberts and Kim Hickey posted faster bike times to claw back some time, however, O’Brien was dominant on the run to seal the overall victory by almost 90 seconds.

In the men’s race, Shane Dunne was dominant in the water posting the fastest time of the day for the 750m swim in 9:19. Despite a strong bike leg to follow, it was Conor Mullany, Lochlainn Connolly, and Enda Bagnall who claimed the podium spots, all running sub-18 minutes following a swift bike split each.
