How Do I Compete?

Each year a selected number of events are included in the Triathlon Ireland National Series. To complete the series, an athlete needs to race four events – one sprint, one standard and two others of any distance. To be eligible for the series, the athlete must hold Full Triathlon Ireland membership at the time of their first race.

Eligibility Checklist

  • Purchased Triathlon Ireland membership (Full, U23 or Swim+) for the selected year.
  • Competed one Sprint Distance event in the Triathlon National Series.
  • Competed one Standard Distance event in the Triathlon National Series.
  • Completed two other events in the Triathlon National Series.

How Are Points Allocated?

The Triathlon National Series employs a “30th percentile” points system with male and female Triathlon Ireland members ranked separately.

Here’s how it works: The triathlete who is at the 30th percentile of all TI members that finish a race (say 60th out of 200) will be allocated 100 points. The scores for all other times are calculated by reference to the 30th percentile.

Note: The TI Member rule means that ‘One Day Membership’ holders and triathletes who are members of a foreign triathlon association are excluded from the calculations.

What is the Club Triathlon National Series?

Representing your club with your training buddies is one of the highlights of the Triathlon National Series. Any member of a club, who meets the criteria for competing in the Triathlon National Series is included in the Club Triathlon National Series.

There are three categories: Male, Female, and Mixed. Six athletes make up the total points for each series. The top six male Triathlon National Series athletes of a club make up the total points for the Male Club Series. The top six female Triathlon National Series athletes of a club make up the total points for the Female Club Series. A mix of three female and three male Triathlon National Series athletes from a club make up the total points for the Mixed Club Series.
