TriAthy Race Report

ByEmma Porter |

TriAthy welcomed nearly 2,000 athletes on the 1st of June for their annual race day, with nearly 1,000 athletes entering the National Series Olympic Distance race. Spirits were high as the sun shone and music played while the athletes made their way to the start line.

The race kicked off with a rolling start as the athletes entered the River Barrow in Athy. The initial 600 m was upstream against the current before the athletes took a single u-turn to swim the final 900 m downstream. In the Men’s race, Cory Fines completed the fastest swim in a time of 00:20:01. In the Women’s race, Esther Bayon had the leading time of 00:22:26.

The cycle consisted of a 40 km lap through the south of Athy. The majority of the course was on wide, closed roads, with the remaining sections covering a more technical area close to Kilkea Castle and Castledermot. Paul Carroll took the lead in the Men’s race, with a bike time of 00:56:16. In the Women’s race, Becky Woods from Piranha took the lead and completed the bike in 01:03:27.

The run followed a new course for the 2024 race. The course now consisted of 2 laps of a circuit to the south of Athy town. On the 2nd lap, athletes crossed the River Barrow over the “Horse Bridge” to finish by Athy Community Library. In the Men’s race, Conal Cremen of Belpark Triathlon Club completed the fastest run, in a time of 00:34:22.
