Galway Triathlon Club is thrilled to announce the return of the Tribesman Triathlon taking place on Sunday June 15th. Following its successful comeback in 2024 after a six year hiatus, last year’s event was marked by perfect weather and an electric atmosphere, setting the stage for an even more exhilarating race this year.
In a major boost to its prestige, the 2025 Tribesman Triathlon is a Triathlon Ireland National Series race further solidifying its status as a premier event in the Irish triathlon calendar.
Race start and finish is on the grounds of the University of Galway, providing an iconic backdrop for athletes and spectators alike. Participants will commence their race with a 750m downstream swim in the River Corrib, renowned as one of Europe’s shortest and fastest flowing rivers, swift swim times are expected. The cycling segment features a fast, flat out and back 20km course towards Moycullen on the N59 to include the Moycullen bypass, culminating with a scenic 5km run through the picturesque grounds of the University of Galway along the River Corrib. The Sprint Triathlon will host the Intervarsity National Championships, offering eligible athletes an opportunity to compete for Intervarsity Championship itles
Concurrently, the Aquabike Sprint National Championship will take place, providing a platform for athletes specialising in this growing discipline to secure an early season National Championship title. The Junior Aquabike National Championship will also take place alongside the senior race, providing young athletes a chance to showcase their talents on a national stage.
New for 2025, the Try-a-Tri event has been introduced to encourage newcomers to dip their toes in the sport. This event features a 250m swim in the River Corrib, a 17km cycle on a flat course towards Moycullen and a 5km run through the University of Galway’s grounds, offering a fun and accessible way for first time triathletes to experience the thrill of race day.

With National Series status for the Sprint Race and National Championship status for the Aquabike, the event has already attracted some of the best and fastest triathletes in the country who are eager to score points in the race to the top of the National Series Leaderboard. We expect to see some incredibly fast swim and bike times in the Sprint Aquabike National Championships. We are grateful to the local and wider triathlon community for their incredible support and participation, as well as to the University of Galway and our many partners who help make this event possible.
