Two Provinces Triathlon Race Report

Approximately 600 athletes travelled to County Longford to compete in the Two Provinces Triathlon along the River Shannon on Saturday, 6th of July. Hosted by Lanesboro Triathlon Club, the event was another key race of the Triathlon National Series, drawing athletes eager to compete for the National Series titles.

The fickle weather challenged the athletes on the day, with the varied weather conditions bringing a mix of rain & sunshine which demanded additional caution on the course. The athletes persevered, with the first finisher completing the sprint national series race in just under an hour.

Cory Fines claimed victory with an impressive time of 00:59:44, exiting Lough Ree first alongside Shane Dunne, with just a 1 second difference. Stephen Donnelly from Liquid Motion TC claimed 2nd place, with a time of 01:00:01. Loughlin Campion, showcasing a particularly strong cycling segment at 00:28:42, finished in third place.

In the female race, Becky Woods from Piranha Triathlon Club claimed first place, displaying an impressive performance across all segments. She held the fastest times for both the cycling and running segments, completing the run in 00:17:33. Fellow Piranha Triathlon Club member Saoirse O’Brien took second place, highlighted by her strong swim time of 00:11:04. Aisling Wyer from Naas Triathlon Club rounded out the podium in third place, finishing in a time of 01:07:06.

The event was marked by strong community spirit, with supporters cheering at the finish line to greet the athletes. Lanesboro Triathlon Club provided a welcoming recovery area where all participants could relax after the race and enjoy the famous paella!
