White & Edgar Target Asian World Cup Block

ByEmma Porter |

Russell White and James Edgar travelled over 8,500km to Chengdu, China for the next stop on their triathlon calendar. The chase continues for White and Edgar to earn valuable Olympic points in the qualification window towards Paris 2024. The Irish pair were taking on a field of over 50 athletes.

Edgar emerged from the water in the first group. White having struggled on lap 2 of the 1500m swim emerged just 20 seconds behind in a group that would form the second pack.

White’s group worked well together and had closed the gap on the leading bunch coming back into t2 for the run. Unfortunately after putting such an effort in on the bike chasing down the main group, his legs faded throughout the 10km run. Edgar has been nursing a stress response the last three months so has put most of his training into swimming and biking, leaving very little run training but he left it all out there.

The pair will now switch their focus on the 2023 World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong on the 21st of October.
